Lead Forensic Nurse

Since beginning her nursing career in 1998, Merriam has focused on trauma patient care since 2003 and has been working in Stanford Hospital’s Surgical/Trauma Intensive Care Unit since 2014. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Pittsburgh, a Master’s in Nursing from San Jose State University, and a Certificate in Forensic Nursing from UC Riverside. She is a Certified Critical Care Nurse, Trauma Nurse, and Forensic Nurse, and she has completed advanced training in strangulation and medico-legal death investigation. Merriam regularly reviews forensic cases including strangulation, assault, DUI, homicide, and domestic violence. Courts have qualified her as an expert witness in strangulation, traumatic brain injury, blunt force trauma, medical record interpretation, and acceptable medical practice for blood draws.
