This is an approximately 60 minute presentation that reviews sexual assault nurse
examinations, best practice and relevance of exam findings.

The presentation covers the role of SANEs in conducting forensic exams for sexual assault
survivors. It discusses the training required to become a SANE, the components of a forensic
exam, evidence collection, prophylaxis options, and the importance of understanding the
neurobiology of trauma. The presentation also touches on pediatric considerations and
suspect exams.

Objectives:
Upon completion of the presentation, the attendee will:
• Understand the role and training requirements of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs).
